Canada pictures
At the source of the mighty Columbia.
At the Banff Ave Brewing Co.
In Calgary we went out to Vietnamese food and these little kids were kind of obsessed with the fish tank that was next to us and this little girl about Seth's age was really trying to make friends.
At the mall Seth was really fascinated by the skating rink and of course pillars made of mirrors.
On the way home, watching Charlotte's Web I think. Note the shoe situation and yet another use for the Moby wrap, kudos to me for my ingenuity.
In other news, I finally got my period last Friday, so GAME ON. My acupuncturist doesn't want me to try and get pregnant again right away but what does she know?

Trip to Canada part 2 and More!
So I guess I better try to finish this since I'm already forgetting the details. Wednesday morning Seth woke up kind of gagging a little bit but that may have just been because of his disgusting diaper. For some reason most of the week he was waking up in the morning with the twosies in his pants, which isn't really typical. But he seemed okay the rest of the day. After his morning nap we headed down to Wetaskiwin to bury my grandpa's ashes at a church where he used to pastor. It was a very informal but sweet little ceremony and afterwards we went back to Edmonton and had lunch at Red Robin. Eric and I were very disappointed to find that they DID NOT HAVE the Burnin' Love burger and thus no Jalapeno Coins! Tragic! After lunch we went to the mall again for a little bit before feeding Seth his dinner and putting him to bed. There was a big family dinner at my aunt Bev's house and we had a great time drinking plenty of good wine and (in Eric's case) FAR too much Canadian beer!
Thursday morning was not Eric's favorite part of the trip, due to the beer situation. My theory is that he didn't drink any more beers than he normally would but in Canada it has a lot more alcohol PER beer. Anyway, I was all stressed out because Eric wasn't feeling good and it was supposed to be our FUN Day to go to the WATER Park, Yay!! Tensions were high as Eric was considering not going at all and you better believe I was not going by myself! The next thing I knew, I turned my back for ONE SECOND and Seth had knocked over this little decorative table and along with it a potted tree that smashed on the floor and broke sending vase pieces and potting soil all over the place. I FREAKED out. I was already at the breaking point (** see below) and this was all I needed to put me over the edge into a raging river of tears. Ultimately the broken vase was just from Home Depot or something so it's wasn't a big deal but there was also a little ding in the wood floor and needless to say I was completely mortified. We had really been vigilant all week about not allowing Seth to touch things so I took this as a personal failure. SO frustrating. Anyway, we all survived and managed to get out of the house and to the water park.
Seth was not in the greatest of spirits and did not enjoy the water park like I thought he would. It was too big and too loud and too many people (although it wasn't really all that crowded) and I think he was just overwhelmed. All I could really get him to do for the first hour or so was walk around and climb up and down the stairs. Any time we took him near the wave pool he would just fuss and refused to wade through the water at all. Finally after awhile I got him to hang out in the toddler pool and he was fascinated watching two little boys who were very serious about trying to manipulate the flow of water through these little troughs they had in there. After that I took him out into the wave pool and we bobbed up and down with a minimum of fussing until he couldn't go 30 seconds without putting his head on my shoulder, so I figured that was our cue to go home.
Friday morning we got all packed and headed toward home. It was a quick trip since we were spending the night in Okotoks which is only about 3.5 hours south of Edmonton. Our room was pretty baby safe so after dinner at Boston Pizza we had a relaxing evening hanging out and letting Seth run wild. Saturday was the big travel day as we were still at least 7 hours from home but Seth did really well and hardly fussed until we got all the way to Sandpoint. Once we got to the house he seemed ecstatic to be there and made a beeline for Max when he saw him and practically tackled him in excitement. For the next couple of days Seth was still on Mountain time and was waking up bright and early at 5:30am, but as the week has gone on he seems to have settled back into his routine.
A couple people have asked me if it was easier traveling with Seth last year or this year and it's really hard to say. But if I had to choose I would say in a lot of ways it was harder this year even though both Eric and Natalie were along for the ride, whereas last year it was just me and my dad. Mainly because at 15 months when you put Seth down he doesn't stay put. And he has to be constantly entertained or else he's getting into some kind of mischief. On the other hand, he was a lot more fun and at least I didn't have to run off and hide out somewhere to feed him 6 times a day like I did last year.
Sunday morning was the day we've all been waiting for -- Bloomsday!! It was a gorgeous day and I was so proud of myself finishing 12k in 96 minutes! And NO hip pain, which I was really happy about. I am inspired to find some more fun runs/races to participate in so I have an excuse to keep up the training. I did gain back a few pounds on our trip due to eating and drinking with reckless abandon (even though I did run at least 4 miles every other day while we were up there). I really had to force myself earlier in the week to do my food diary and get my workouts in but by yesterday both were things I looked forward to again. I have this food logging app on my phone and at the end of every day it gives me all these little green thumbs up or red thumbs down tips like "Congratulations, Low cholesterol" or "You consumed more than the recommended amount of sodium" and I find myself strangely motivated to get all thumbs up!
I got a tour of the YMCA yesterday and I think I'm going to sign us up for a family membership. We're already enrolled in some little shrimp parent/child swimming lessons for Seth which start next Saturday. But I think it would also be fun to just take him to the pool and hang out during the open swim times. Plus they have an amazing fitness center and a ton of group classes (including prenatal fitness classes) that I am looking forward to taking advantage of. They also have free drop in child care so I can take Seth and let him play while I work out. I have really enjoyed having our elliptical at home but I've realized that for me variation is key or else I will just get bored and quit. In all honesty I guess that principal applies to just about every area of my life.
** I'm now on day 42 of my cycle. I've taken 2 pregnancy tests which were negative but still no sign of my period other than some irrational mood swings here and there. I think 43 days is my personal record but it's been so long since I really kept track that I'm not sure. So if I don't get it soon I'm not sure what I'm going to do :( I'm sick of going to the doctor and my insurance doesn't cover anything related to fertility (which is a whole other blog post). So as usual, it's just wait and see.
