Baby gear & stuff

Now that were back from vacation, Im done with school, and theres only about 2 more weeks of my 2nd trimester left, its time to really get down to business. Lots of chaos is going on in our house right now as we prepare for the big move and redecorate, but Im excited. I wanted to get started on our registry first so wed have an idea of what colors to pick out for paint and all that. So we went to Babies R Us on Sunday to pick out some of the essentials. And holy cow I had no idea what I was getting into. I was prepared for the big stuff, stroller, high chair, swing, crib, etc. But when it got down to the details like extra sheets, receiving blankets, bottles, burp clothes, binkies, and worst of all TOYS, I started to feel like I was going to faint. Lucky for me, I have several friends who have had their first babies in the last couple of years and after 2+ hours on the phone with them on Monday I started to regain my composure about the whole thing. New moms are FULL of little gems of information, I tell you. My favorite so far: when you go back to work, have Eric text you when hes feeding the baby so you can pump AT THE SAME TIME (thanks Mary). Ok so that one wasnt really about baby gear but seriously, what a great idea! Tell me more! What can I live without and more importantly, what CANT I live without? You moms with babies, look around your nursery and let me know what you wish you had or what you would not give up without a fight :)

My other concern right now is my size, yikes. Im already getting too big for some of my maternity clothes that I bought initially, which sucks!! So far Ive gained about 18 pounds, which I guess isnt too bad overall, its just that my rate of increase in size seems to be accelerating a little faster than Im comfortable with! 10 pounds in 4 weeks??? Is that normal? I definitely cant keep that up or Ill be the size of a Holstein by Christmas! I have to admit I have been pretty, uhm, *relaxed* about my diet for the past month, with very minimal exercise so I guess that would explain it. At my last appointment my doctor said my weight gain was reasonable. So that’s all that really matters, but still I think its time to take notice and maybe eat a few more vegetables and cut out some of the desserts Ive gotten in the habit of eating several times a week. Ill be happy with gaining about a pound a week from here on out. I have a new prenatal workout DVD at home to try tonight and on Thursday Im getting my first Fresh Abundance delivery! Yay! I had no idea I could have local organic produce DELIVERED to my house, how cool is that?!? Produce is my least favorite thing to shop for, so I am really excited. This week (they switch it up every week) Im getting corn, plums, potatoes, green pepper, peaches, salad greens, apples, blueberries, leeks, pears, broccoli, nectarines, carrots, bananas, and Jack Be Little Pumpkins! So guess what Ill be making this weekend??? Leek and Potato soup perhaps?? The possibilities are endless :)

Can't wait to talk to you more about all this stuff. I really do love the topic and I miss talking to you.

So, piggybacking on our convo this weekend ... I just looked at the items you added to your registry and wanted to note that I think you can totally do without the wipe warmer, unless you just really love the idea. We don't have one and have never wished we'd gotten one. Though I do remember wanting to add it to our list at the beginning because I thought it sounded very considerate. :)

I will go into Emma's room when she wakes from her nap and try to inventory a few things to give you more info. I do know that we liked having two changing pad covers ... I forget if you had more than one on your registry. Even now, when we have less accidents, I like to change those out and wash them every now and then and it's good to have one to put on while the other is in the wash.

More later. Excited for you that everything is coming together! :)

I added the wipe warmer because my friend Mary said she loved hers. She said it really helped with night time changings/feedings, keeping the kiddo from waking up too much from the cold wipes hitting the bum. She said they didn't have one at first but after they got it, it made a big difference in how long it took to get her daughter back to sleep. So I figured for the $24 or whatever it was, it might be worth a shot. Again, something I would never have thought of on my own...
